Direct payment arrangements are in place with Fedhealth and Discovery Health, and certain closed schemes administered by Discovery Health.

For private patients and other medical schemes: the practice charges private fees as proposed by Healthman Psychiatry Costing Guide.

Any shortfall will be for the member’s account.

How to Access Public & Low-Cost Mental Health Care (No Medical Aid)

  • Visit your local clinic or community health centre — ask for their mental health or psychiatric liaison service.
  • If needed, they can refer you to the nearest district hospital with psychiatric services.
  • Use toll-free national helplines (such as SADAG) for immediate support and guidance/referral.
  • Check NGO / support-group-based counselling services (such as Indlela, SADAG groups) for low-cost or pro bono help.
  • For medico-legal or disability assessments, large provincial hospitals sometimes have forensic psychology / psychiatric divisions (public sector).
